It's Wednesday, day 3 of the week.
3rd day at the gym, first day on the bike.
Tuesday was a kick ass workout, that coupled with the fact that I got a massage on Saturday and the guy has left me feeling pretty bruised. I had a very hard time getting up this morning, I took a pass and drove vs riding.
I am getting ready to ride into work for the first time since last Wednesday, looking forward to it.
Back to Las Vegas next week, so I am needing to make the most of this week.
And we are . . . . .updated

PDX - LAX
Went down to LA to visit with family, so only got in 4 days, thank goodness for the Sunday 9:30 class.
Rode on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, flew out on Thursday so drove straight from work to the airport.
Did very little exercising in LA, save for running my mouth, glad to be back in town and back on schedule

Week 6
Back in town for a full week, probably made it to the gym every day, or if not every day, then almost every day.
Had to switch it up a bit due to early work days.
Rode just about every day, got a lift home on Friday with my bike.

Vegas baby
I was in Las Vegas for the week, did 2 hotel 30 minute work outs on the elliptical machine. Post workout I stepped outside to stretch, turns out I was in a smokers hotspot, not cool.
I made it back to town on Friday, and was able to catch a Friday afternoon workout and then again on Sunday.
I felt like I was playing catchup, which I was.
Not so good on the bike that week, but I did a lot of walking from the hotel to the convention space, so not a total loss.

Blah, stupid cold
I am posting this in the future/past.
I caught whatever Abbie brought back from her cruise and I made it to the gym on Monday. The rest of the week, I took it easy in order to give my body a chance. I also have a week away from home next week, so I didn't want to push myself too hard.
I rode on Monday, the rest of the week, stuck in the car.
As my co worker used to right, waaa, waaa

Week 3 wrap up
One post a week does not cut it, but here goes.
Rode to work 4 days this week, 2 of them were in either falling snow or fallen snow. Only got drive by slushed on once, discovered that my Frankenstein boots (Boggs) do a much better job in slushy, wet snow than Sambas.
When I make the 5:30 class after work today, that will be 5 days in a row for the gym. I had to do a late night airport run last night, which I totally botched, hence the PM workout. I did the same thing last week due to a late night airport drop off and the class is pretty killer, so I am only sort of looking forward to it.
My wife is back from a 5 day cruise in the Caribbean, while I am glad to have her back, she has picked up a cold that I am hoping I don't catch.
In two weeks I will be out of town for a trade show, so next week is crucial. I have the best intentions to hit the hotel gym when I travel, but rarely have success.

Monday, back at it
This morning was a bit rough, I was up early on Sunday and was working around the house all day. Got to bed a bit late, which meant that 4:40 came pretty early today.
I fell into a rhythm about halfway through today's spinning portion and then pushed myself during the second half.
More importantly, I found that icebreaker has an annual warehouse sale in December. I consider myself quite a deal hunter, and I was not even aware of the event. I will need to figure out how to get on the list in December and stock up some super nice merino wool items.
Raleigh Super Course is back up & running, just a little bit of brake drag on the rear wheel, I will make a quick adjustment before I ride to work. Looks like it is going to stay cold with the strong prospect of rain.

33 degrees & Foggy
Looked at Weatherbug first thing this morning, turns out that it is pretty cold when getting ready to go Stand Up Paddle Boarding. I have a friend who has 3 boards and 2 of my friends are showing up in 30 minutes to spend an hour out on the lake. It will be interesting to see what the visibility is like out on water.
For the week, I am at 5 days at the gym, this was my first time going to a Thursday class, it was much tougher than I expected which made Friday seem a bit easier than normal. Friday the class was full and several of us discussed our resolutions regarding fitness and compared notes on when we joined the gym in order to beat the "January" crowd.
I only worked 3 days last week, so as far as commuting by bike, I only logged 35.5 miles. I should be able to get 5 days next week, and this afternoon I am hoping to finish repairs to my geared bike, so that I can ride it instead of my single speed.

Pizza & Egg nog
I am glad to see the holidays coming to a close, this was the first year where I was fully aware that eating the assorted snacks and drinking the occasional glass of egg nog was going to set me back. Today, I head back to work, where I will be until late January when I travel to Las Vegas for a trade show. That trip will bring it's own set of challenges.
Yesterday after grocery shopping in our old neighborhood, I stopped by Escape from New York Pizza, where I have been a regular since the mid 90's and to my surprise, Phil asked what was different about me. I was surprised for 2 reasons, usually I am met with some off handed comment which usually includes an F bomb, secondly, I think Phil was doing the calculations in his head as he forecasted lost revenue. I explained that I had been going to the gym and that my wife had cut carbs & a lot of grains out of both of our diets. He seemed impressed, said something about me getting skinny jeans and then our conversation fell into it's normal routine.
Today was day 3 for the week, and I will be riding in to the office for the first time this week. I have to schlep in a pair of boots to return to Zappos, thankfully I have a large handlebar basket which should make it easier.

2nd Day at the Gym
Just back from the second day in a row, Monday & Wednesday I like, Tuesday & Thursday I am getting used to.
Today we worked on arms & legs and I noticed on my ride home that I was feeling heavy in my arms. This does not bode well, I took the day off to catch up from the holidays, take down the lights, work on the bikes a little, etc. If I get to the point where all I am focusing on is how sore/tired I am, I may end up downstairs catching up on my Dexter episodes.
I also noticed more folks than normal out running, is everyone working on their fitness goals this year?
Perhaps my best advice to someone working on a resolution is to find someone to work out with, it is much easier to face getting out of bed at five in the morning, if you know that someone else is counting on you showing up. There have a handful of days where I sent the following email to my "gym buddy".
Dear xxxx,
WTF?
Kirk
I always get a response and a promise to show up the next day.

First Posting
It is a new year, time for new thing, or maybe not so new. I am going to try and keep this blog as describe in non painful detail my adventures in fitness for the coming year.
Early last year, I finally convinced a friend to join a local gym with me and have been quite pleased with the results. Along with the improvement in health, I have become part of a community, or "third place" if you will. I would have never thought that I could make new friends and acquaintances at 5:30 in the morning, but after a few weeks of classes, a lot of the normal social barriers come down.
So, I have told myself and some of the trainers that I am going to shoot for 5 days a week, back in March I started with 3 days, went up to 4, back down to 3, added wake boarding before work in the summer, back up to 4 when the boat came out of the water and now. . . 5 days. Couple that with commuting to work on a bike and I am hoping to see continued improvements in my stamina levels, overall health and of course, continued weight loss.
